13th May Covid-19 Update

13th May 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope you are all well and that you and your families are keeping safe.

Following the Prime Minister’s address to the country earlier this week and guidance published by the Department for Education on Monday evening, I wish to provide you with an update.

The current planning is that secondary schools may be able to offer some face to face support for pupils in Years 10 and 12 to supplement their distance learning from 1st June. This is very much dependent on the Coronavirus situation. Most importantly though, for now, nothing has changed.

The children of key workers, as well as any children who are vulnerable, will continue to come into school as they have since the lockdown began. To be clear, the definition of key workers has not changed. For all other children, we will continue to provide distance learning to minimise any disruption to their learning.

We are currently working through the detail of the guidance for re-opening schools from the Department for Education. This includes advice that class sizes should be halved, and pupils in these groups should keep 2m away from each other where possible. When more information is received we will also work out an appropriate timetable for students in Year 10 and 12 to meet with as many of their teachers as possible.

We are aware that parents of students in years 7 – 9 will be left uncertain about the next steps for their children. We remain committed to providing home learning resources as we have since the lockdown began.

We will be in touch with you to update you on our preparations as soon as we have more details. In the coming days we will request that you fill in an online survey via our App. This will enable us to get an idea of potential numbers of children from eligible years possibly coming into school at the beginning of June.

As always, the safety of your children and our staff remain our number one priority and will be the key driver in any decisions we make.

As ever, if you have any questions please do get in touch via our App.

Yours sincerely,

Adam Atkinson
