British Values

At Woodfields Academy, we promote fundamental British Values through our pupil’s spiritual, social and cultural (SMSC) development. This is done in a variety of ways; through Religious Education, collective worship, and establishing a strong school ethos supported by effective relationships throughout school.

We expect pupils to;

  • Understand while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law
  • regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect
  • show tolerance, understanding and empathy
  • behave responsibly and become good citizens

Our school’s ethos and teaching supports the rule of English Civil and Criminal Law, democracy and individual liberty and mutual tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

The Prevent Duty

From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”  This duty is known as the Prevent duty.
