Those of us in the field of education are acutely aware of the ongoing challenges with student behaviour and attendance, especially in the aftermath of COVID-19. At Astrea, we’re actively investing in addressing these issues within the communities we serve.
Throughout the 2023/24 academic year, we’ve developed plans that showcase our commitment through tangible actions, not just words. November 2024 will mark the introduction of our inaugural Step-Out provision in South Yorkshire, designed to support consistent attendance and provide the necessary space and support some of our most vulnerable scholars need to re-engage with their learning journey.
Supporting our South Yorkshire secondary academies, Step-Out will give our scholars the time, therapeutic and academic support they need to be successful when they return to mainstream education. This provision highlights our unwavering commitment to addressing the needs of scholars accessing the Step-Out provision.
This will be the first in a series of similar initiatives across South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire, all aimed at disrupting the exclusion cycle and affording every child the opportunity to succeed.
Our first Step-Out will be based at Astrea Academy Woodfields, predominantly serving our Doncaster schools, and to a lesser extent, also supporting the wider Astrea secondary academies in South Yorkshire.
