What’s been completed?

We are excited to share with you that our redevelopment of the Astrea Academy Woodfields site is really starting to take shape …….. and the best news is we have moved into our new teaching facilities !!!
In September 2018 Astrea Academy Woodfields was awarded funding to carry out significant refurbishment and new build projects across the school site. Since this time, a project team has been meeting fortnightly to work through design options, building works and safety aspects to ensure that the programme of work has maximum impact for the experience of our students and to ensure they are at the core of every decision. In September 2021 the academy moved into the new teaching facilities and they are fantastic !!

What did the development include?

The school site has undertook a dramatic transformation that has greatly increase the learning experience of our students and provided vastly improved facilities.
The site now has a ………
• Dedicated kitchen space with new kitchen servery and student dining hall;
• Brand new teaching block with specialist ICT teaching rooms and superb maths teaching rooms with new promethean teaching boards, along with a staff workroom and new facilities for students;
• Main Assembly Hall with an integrated drama studio and an amazing dance studio;
• Professional visitor reception area and a new student services area with student facilities, medical room, prayer room and administration areas for the academy business functions;
• Refurbishment of the science teaching classrooms;
• An upgrade of IT network and WiFi across the site;
· New secure perimeter fence and improved access control across the site which enhances safeguarding across the Academy.

What else is there to do?

The next stage of the redevelopment is the demolition of three existing buildings, this is a significant element of the Capital Build and the project team have an external advisor to support with all aspects of Health & safety. This is the final phase of the redevelopment which not only includes the demolition but will result in a vast outdoor area for students to use during social time. The academy and project team are working closely to ensure all the works are completed for Winter 2021/Spring 2022.

What do we need from you?

To ensure that we managed the project in the right way, we consulted publicly with pupils, parents, carers, Woodfields staff, the local community, Doncaster Local Authority and other schools in the area prior to the commencement of the buildings work.
