Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education

PSHE Co-ordinator: Mrs S Parton

Within the PSHCE department our primary aims are to equip our students with the tools they need to be safe, foster a culture of respect and tolerance, become active citizens and, create positive life chances for themselves. To this end, our curriculum is varied and tailored specifically to the students we serve. As well as bespoke sessions within the school timetable we will call upon a variety of professionals throughout the year to aid in our delivery. This will ensure the information, advice and guidance we give to our students is current, of the highest quality, and is relevant to their lives now and in the future.

Key Stages 3 and 4

Students will be provided with information to develop informed decisions and opinions about their local, national and international communities – articulating their views with confidence and sensitivity. An age appropriate and inclusive plan for relationships and sex education also ensures students are empowered to build healthy relationships, and are fully aware of how to safeguard themselves as children, and as adults. Furthermore, students will explore a variety of career options available to them in pursuance of social mobility; engage in sessions which access health and well-being strategies, as well as being encouraged to employ resilience and acts of kindness in furtherance of a happy and dynamic environment in and around Astrea Academy Woodfields.

Due to the nature of this course, this is a non-examined subject however, students will be able to transfer the many skills and life lessons developed from this course into their personal and professional lives.

Students will receive regular homework with the aim to consolidate and expand learning as well as preparing for new learning.
