The anticipation for this game has been developing since the semi-final victory on the 1st April, the year 11s knowing it was the final time that they would pull on a shirt to represent school and potentially what a way to finish, in the Doncaster Schools Cup final, could it be a dream ending.
The game started at an exciting pace with Woodfields stamping their authority on the game from the very first whistle, the first 20 minutes passed, so did numerous chances for Woodfields to take the lead playing some excellent football. Around 25 Minutes into the game, Campsmount found themselves winning a free kick just outside the 18-yard box with a clear threat towards Woodfields goal. Knowing that their chances had been limited to this point it was imperative that they made this opportunity count and with the free kick taking a wicked deflection the deadlock was finally broken against the run of play. This provided Campsmount with a second wind and shortly after, following a foul from the Woodfield keeper, Campsmount had their second opportunity from the penalty spot, fortunately for Woodfields the striker pulled the penalty wide allowing Woodfields a chance to get back into the game. With renewed effort, team spirit and determination Woodfields picked themselves up and began to believe that this indeed could be their day. Following an excellent move through midfield and a clinical finish from Josh Cockett Woodfields found themselves back in the game. Going in at half time at 1-1 would have been an excellent result, however the lads had a different idea, with 1 minute left of the first half Andrei smashed a ball up field and after an excellent touch and turn inside the Campsmount 18 yard box by Ethan Thorpe, Woodfields were going into half time 2-1 up.
The second half saw more explosive, exciting football from Woodfields who continued to grow in confidence. Campsmount did their very best to break down the solid Woodfields defence for a second time but with some outstanding defending throughout the team, Woodfields weathered the storm. Woodifelds continued to create numerous chances and after a phenomenal run from Ethan Thorpe beating four defenders and slotting the ball past the keeper to make the game 3-1, the chance for a Campsmount reply was slim. Campsmount continued to press valiantly but with minutes to go Woodfields broke away and Daniel Rose was able to seal the game with an excellent close range finish to make the game 4-1 and crown Astrea Academy Woodfields as the Champions of Doncaster 2019.
Congratulations to everyone involved and well played.
