Exam success – message from the Principal.

I am incredibly proud to be the Principal of Astrea Academy Woodfields and see the delight on our students faces as they have collected their GCSE exam results today and their Level 3 BTec results last week.

Collectively as a cohort, the Class of 2019 made astonishing progress during Year 11 and they showed determination and resilience in the lead up to and during their exams. Their effort and mindset paid off as demonstrated by the students’ individual exam results and the Academy’s overall results.

Astrea Academy Woodfields’ Progress 8 score, which is the main measure for secondary schools increased by +0.47 compared to 2018. This is equivalent to every single student making ½ a grade more progress in every single subject compared to previous years! Further to this, the percentage of students achieving Grade 5’s in both English and Maths increased by a massive 12% compared to 2018!

Last week Year 13 students at our Sixth Form Centre received their results, which were also as impressive. Students studying the BTec National Extended Diploma achieved an average grade of Distinction, Distinction, Merit, which is the equivalent to grades A, A, C in three A-Levels and attracts 128 UCAS points. Whilst students studying the BTec National Extended Diploma Sports and Exercise Science, saw an incredible average grade that exceeded the required points for a triple Distinction; equivalent to three grade A’s at A-Level and attracting 144 UCAS points!

These significant improvements in exam outcomes both in Y11 and Y13 instill the confidence that we are taking the necessary action and in a swift manner to ensure that Astrea Academy Woodfields becomes the outstanding school this community and students deserve.

I thank the students, parents and the staff for their support, as we continue our journey to become outstanding.

Best Wishes

J Cater
