Active IQ Level 1 Award in Active, Healthy Living

What qualification will I gain?

Level 1 Award in Active Healthy, Living. This is the equivalent to a GCSE Grade D to G.

What do I need to get onto the course?

There are no specific entry requirements as this qualification is open to all that are in school years 10 and 11. No experience is necessary, however, an interest in how to improve your knowledge of activity and exercise and wanting to adopt a healthier lifestyle for yourself is ideal. However, please note that places on the course are limited and this will be determined on a first come, first served basis.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to explain the links between activity and better health in order to demonstrate the opportunities within daily life to become more active. You will also learn about how the human body works in relation to exercise.

Where can this qualification progress me to?

There are numerous qualifications that the Level 1 Award in Active Healthy, Living can progress you onto such as:

  • Level 1 in Sport Recreation and Allied occupations
  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
  • Level 2 Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness
  • Level 2 Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being Operational Services

How will I be assessed?

Each learner will be provided with a work booklet to complete during class, an observed activity session and a portfolio.

When will the course take place?

Every other Wednesday evening from 5-6:30pm starting 11th September 2019.

Where will the course be held?

Sixth Form Centre, Astrea Academy Woodfields, Weston Road, Balby, Doncaster, DN4 8ND.

How long will this qualification take me?

28 Weeks

What will the qualification cost me?

This qualification is FREE to all school year 10 and 11 learners. However, we do ask for a £20 deposit that will be returned to you on completion of the course. This can be paid in cash or cheque (made payable to Astrea Academy Woodfields).

What will I need to wear?

Casual comfortable clothing can be worn, however, there are some practical elements involved on the course so you would will need to bring shorts/leggings and t-shirt to exercise in. It is also advised that you bring a drink, note pad and pen.

Where will I be taught?

This qualification will be taught in the Sixth Form Building at Astrea Academy Woodfields.
