The Coaching and Teaching Education Academy offers students the opportunity to gain skills in planning, organisation, communication, leadership and team work through a structured 2 year progressive programme.
Throughout the course, students have a personalised teaching timetable devised, in which they are allocated to a member of PE staff, who will act as their mentor for the year. Students are expected to assist with and eventually lead full PE lessons at Astrea Academy Woodfields, in addition to taking a lead role in an extra-curricular club.
Coaching and Teaching students will also take part in Coaching Workshops, Delivered by the Coaching and Teaching Lead. These workshops follow a curriculum put together to increase confidence, knowledge and interpersonal skills to assist with their coaching development. There are both theory and practical aspects within the workshops delivered, ensuring an holistic approach to developing all aspects of Coaching and Teaching, including Roles of a sports coach, coaching styles, analysis of sports coaching, planning and organising sessions, behaviour management, differentiation of sessions, and organising opportunities in the community.
Along with this, students will work with the School Games Organiser on site, to plan, deliver and assist with Doncaster School Games competitions aimed at primary, secondary and Disability schools.
As well as this structured learning at Astrea Academy Woodfields, there are opportunities to gain Coaching qualifications throughout your time here, with students leaving Astrea Academy Woodfields with qualifications in Rounders, TRI-golf, Football, Disability sports and more.
