Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance
Astrea Academy Woodfields is committed to supporting scholars to reach university, or a real alternative, and to provide information to enable our scholars to make well informed and thoughtful decisions about their choices.
Careers education, as part of the Personal Development and Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) structure, includes the Personal Development lesson programme, subject lessons that link curriculum learning to careers, employability skills, and a range of career related events. Careers information on education and employment routes is scheduled across the school calendar.
Impartial and independent career guidance is delivered by careers advisor Mrs. Tugby-Andrew.
We strive to:
- Raise aspirations
- Develop a broad understanding of the world of work and the labour market
- Develop and use self-awareness to make informed decisions about available opportunities.
Astrea Academy Woodfields has an experienced careers team and has established a comprehensive careers programme. We are continually working towards achieving the eight Gatsby Benchmarks to ensure a high-quality careers provision.

Provider Access Legislation
The updated provider access legislation (PAL) has now been enacted. It specifies schools must provide at least six encounters with approved providers of apprenticeships and technical education for all their students:
- Two encounters for pupils during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 or 9) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend
- Two encounters for pupils during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 or 11) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend
What we do:
Personal Guidance- In KS4, every scholar is entitled to a high-quality, impartial personal guidance meeting with a careers advisor. These are tailored to individual needs and aspirations, ensuring that scholars are well informed about potential future careers and the steps required to achieve them.
Careers in the Curriculum – Scholars are introduced to careers through Personal Development lessons. Each subject highlights potential career pathways, helping scholars see the value of their learning and connect it to future opportunities.
Careers Fair – Each year we host a careers fair where scholars can meet and engage with local employers, universities, colleges and independent training providers. The event also includes guest speakers who deliver assemblies to specific year groups, providing further insight into technical education and apprenticeship pathways.
Mock Interviews – All Year 10 scholars are invited to take part in a mock interview with a local employer. This provides valuable experience of the interview process, with constructive feedback given to help scholars develop and improve for the future.
Assemblies – All scholars experience a range of career-related assemblies throughout the year, focused on key themes and transition points relevant to their year group.
Career-Related Trips – Scholars take part in visits to universities and further education colleges that give them a first-hand experience of post-16 and post-18 options. These trips give scholars the chance to explore different pathways, gain valuable insights, and develop a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them beyond school.
